The Unaffordable Care Act: Coming To A Town Near You!

August 29, 2013

Since being signed into law in 2010, ObamaCare has been the the talk of the town – and not in a good way.

It’s becoming more and more clear that millions of Americans, their families, and their employers are going to be faced with higher premiums, less access to healthcare, and skyrocketing taxes for services they don’t even need.

Now, it’s being reported by National Journal that due to the rate hikes high bills employers across the country may limit or altogether do away with company-backed insurance for employees and their families. Sure, premiums for individuals have the potential to drop – but that’s only if companies continue to offer coverage under ObamaCare. And as of now, the potential of that happening is not looking good.

Health law proponents have excused the rate hikes by saying the prices in the exchange won’t apply to the millions receiving coverage from their employers. But that’s only if employers continue to offer that coverage–something that’s looking increasingly uncertain. Already, UPS, for example, cited Obamacare as its reason for nixing spousal coverage. And while a Kaiser Family Foundation report found that 49 percent of the U.S. population now receives employer-sponsored coverage, more companies are debating whether they will continue to be in the business of providing such benefits at all.

As of this month, only 50% of employers stated that they were ‘somewhat prepared’ for ObamaCare’s implementation and all of the taxes, fees, and hikes that come with it. Due to the uncertainty of the law and the costs associated with it, thousands of employers are hesitant to jump into the exchanges while bringing their employees with them.

The issue here is that the fewer number of people in the exchanges, the costlier health care will be for each and every American. The exchanges vary by state, but in spreading out costs for Americans in varying income brackets, it will end up costing companies and individuals just too much.

We can’t afford ObamaCare. America’s employers can’t afford ObamaCare. And you, your family, and your friends are going to be the ones picking up the tab.
