Puts Obama’s Government Shutdown Ahead Of Nutrition Assistance For Low-Income Families

In yet another disappointing political maneuver, Rep. Collin Peterson voted today against providing immediate government funding for low-income women, children, and infants. The measure would keep funding for the essential Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) at the same rate as the previous fiscal year.

“It’s a new low for Collin Peterson when he votes against funding for nutrition assistance for mothers and children living in poverty,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek. “Time and time again Collin Peterson has proven to Minnesota families that he is part of the problem in Washington.”

Up to 9 million mothers and children living in poverty rely on WIC funding to afford food and infant formula.
