EPIC. FAIL. That really is the only way to describe House Majority PAC’s advertisement to bolster Nick Rahall in West Virginia.

First, West Virginian’s weren’t fooled and recognized that House Majority PAC is Nancy Pelosi’s Super PAC. Let’s just say that Rahall being defended by Pelosi hurts far more than it helps.

Second, the ad claimed that Rahall was endorsed by “our local chamber of commerce.” This caused the President of the West Virginia Chamber of Congress to expose this as false, issue a press release calling on House Majority PAC to pull the ad, and then go on Talkine with Hoppy Kercheval to denounce the ad and essentially make the case against Nick Rahall.

Dare we say – Thank you Nancy Pelosi and House Majority PAC!

NRCC Comment: “The fact that Nancy Pelosi’s Super PAC has launched deceptive advertisements in support of Nick Rahall only further makes the point that Rahall is a staunch Pelosi ally in the War on Coal. Fortunately, no amount of Pelosi-backed fiction will hide Rahall’s vote for a carbon tax that will end West Virginia’s economy as we know it and a ‘retirement tax’ that will gut the pensions of hundreds of thousands of retired West Virginia coal miners.” – NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior

BACKGROUND

West Virginia MetroNews reports, “[T]he state Chamber of Commerce claims they checked in with nine local chambers within the 3rd Congressional District who said they have not voiced their support of Congressman Rahall in 2014. The ad is paid by the House Majority PAC, a Pelosi-supported group. The state Chamber of Commerce is asking the group to take down the ‘deceptive campaign ad.’”

The Charleston Daily Mail also reported on the false ad: “No local chamber has yet endorsed Rahall for the 2014 election, state Chamber President Steve Roberts said…Jenkins previously worked as general counsel for the state Chamber, and repeatedly received chamber endorsements during state Senate races as a Democrat.”

The Hill’s report said, “The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce pushed back on the ad, however, noting it cites a 2012 endorsement and that none of the chambers in Rahall’s district have made an endorsement this cycle. ‘The West Virginia Chamber calls on the pro-Pelosi House Majority PAC to take down this deceptive campaign ad.  Campaigns should be run on truth, not on portraying false support.’…the Chamber wrote in a statement.”

Roll Call reported: “The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce is calling on House Majority PAC to take down the ad. This issue is the local chamber endorsement line. In the ad’s graphics, the source is a 2012 endorsement from the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce in 2012. The state chamber argues that because the endorsement is not current for this cycle, the ad is ‘misleading’ and ‘trickery.’”
