5 Reasons Why This House Democrat Just Ran Away From Nancy Pelosi
Democrat Jim Matheson (D-UT) just announced this afternoon that he will be retiring at the end of his term instead of running for re-election.
This is a smart decision, Matheson! After all, the national landscape coast to coast isn’t looking too good for House Democrats these days. Here are just 5 reasons that Matheson might have decided to retire, and 5 things that other House Democrats should consider as 2014 looms closer.
1. ObamaCare is Too Messy
There’s no doubt about it. ObamaCare is a disaster. Millions of Americans have already lost their healthcare plans, despite President Obama and the Democrats’ promises to the contrary, and premiums are increasing for millions more who do manage to keep their existing plans (just this morning, Matheson himself admitted that ObamaCare was causing his own health premiums to double). Combine that with the fact that Americans are losing access to their doctors and the website doesn’t even work, and you have a train wreck that translates into a lot of problems for Democrats in 2014.
This might have been scary enough to cause Jim Matheson to head towards the exits.
2. Unemployment is Too High
Despite the fact that unemployment and the economy remain Americans’ number one concern, the unemployment rate still sits at an unacceptable 7.3%. President Obama and House Democrats have all but abandoned any hope of job creation, sticking to their failed agenda of higher taxes and more stimulus to create jobs while ignoring common sense proposals, such as the Keystone Pipeline.
Why would voters send Matheson back to Congress for yet another term when he and House Democrats continue to sit on their hands about sky high unemployment?
3. The Debt is Too Big
The national debt has skyrocketed by nearly $6 trillion under the watch of President Obama, Jim Matheson, and House Democrats. Nancy Pelosi, the head of Matheson’s party in the House, recently said that there are “no more cuts to make.” With a staggering deficit and skyrocketing debt, voters realize that we need real solutions to addressing our spending crisis, not more of the same tax-and-spend thinking that has dominated Matheson’s time in Washington.
4. Obama’s Approval Rating is Too Low
With President Obama’s approval rating in the negative double digits, and his ratings collapsing among even his most loyal supporters, the President and his agenda would have been heavier than an anchor for Jim Matheson. Voters are souring on President Obama, and House Democrats who have walked lock-step with him and his agenda are going to be asked to explain themselves to frustrated voters in 2014.
5. The IRS Scandal is Too Bad
This White House promised to be the most transparent in history. Instead, it has stooped into dirty politics, including allowing the IRS to target conservative groups. Just this week, a new report from the Washington Post detailed the lengths to which the Obama Administration went to delay and hide its regulatory policies from the voters until after the 2012 election. It’s no wonder that voters are growing increasingly fed up with Matheson’s and House Democrats’ never-failing support for the White House and its gutter ball politics.
