Why These 2 Democrat Retirements Put Pelosi’s Speakership Dreams in Peril

January 8, 2014

Today we were reminded just how sour the political environment is for House Democrats.

North CarolinIMG-McIntyre_Matheson_Retireda Democrat Mike McIntyre just announced his retirement. No doubt McIntyre knew how bad the environment is for Democrats thanks to President Obama and the failure of ObamaCare. McIntyre’s announcement followed Utah Democrat Jim Matheson’s retirement last month.

Why are these, hands down, the most significant retirements of the 2014 cycle? Easy: Because these are seats the Democrats cannot win without Matheson and McIntyre. They are now off the board.

And it means Republicans will be able to use the resources devoted to those races to defeat other Democrats. Bottom line: Democrats are playing defense.

House Democrats just watched two races vanish for them, putting their hopes of making Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House again in serious peril. With President Obama and the failure of ObamaCare poisoning the political well for Democrats in 2014, the only question is – who is next?
