#TBT: What Democrats Said Then And Now On The Ryan Budget
The House just voted on Paul Ryan’s balanced budget and, in honor of #tbt, I wanted to give you a quick stroll down memory lane…
- Here’s DCCC Chairman Steve Israel in June 2011: “[The Ryan Budget] is a defining issue – and it does define the difference between Democrats and Republicans.’”
- And in April 2014: “DCCC Chair Steve Israel: Paul Ryan’s Budget Will Be ‘Defining Issue’ In Midterms”
What happened in between all that? Just that Republicans elected their second-largest House majority since World War II.
Alright one more…
- August 2012: “Steve Israel: Paul Ryan’s Selection May Have Become Democrats’ ‘Majority Maker’ In House”
- November 2012: “Medicare Fades as Majority Maker for House Dems”
So when Democrats say that our plan to balance the budget will be their secret weapon this fall, I hope you recognize it’s just more of their false bravado in an election year dominated by the failure of ObamaCare.
NRCC COMMENT: “Two years ago, House Democrats called this budget their “majority maker,” yet the GOP emerged with their one of their largest majorities since the Roosevelt Administration. Democrats’ tough talk can’t distract voters from their failed law that has canceled plans and forced families to pay higher premiums.”– Matt Gorman, NRCC Spokesman
