The DCCC Just Won “The Worst Week In Washington” Award. Here’s Why.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee was just bestowed with “The Worst Week In Washington” by the Washington Post.
Their massive blunder in Florida-13, in which they failed to find a Democrat to back so they touted an independent candidate who has since dropped out of the race, earned them the title.
Now, the DCCC doesn’t have any candidate on the ballot in FL-13, a district that they spent months trying to convince us was in play.
Better luck next week, DCCC!
From the Washington Post:
But just when Rep. Steve Israel (N.Y.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, thought he had scored a win, the joy of victory turned to ashes in his mouth — to borrow a phrase from Queen Cersei Lannister.
A few weeks back, Israel was elated by the candidacy in Florida of Col. Ed Jany, an ex-cop and former Marine who emerged as the party’s preferred nominee against GOP Rep. David Jolly, who won a special election for the 13th District seat earlier this year.
Israel helped rally almost every major figure in Florida and national Democratic politics behind Jany’s candidacy. He praised Jany’s “proven ability to bring Americans of all backgrounds and political stripes together.” In the process, the party pushed aside a well-known African American minister who was planning to enter the race.
Then, less than two weeks after he got into the contest, Jany was out. “I wrongly assumed that I could maintain my professional work requirements while running for office,” he said in a statement. The Tampa Bay Times reports that Jany inflated his résumé: He said he had a degree from the University of Minnesota but didn’t. That probably had something to do with it, too.
