NRCC Sends Steve Israel and Tim Bishop Reading Assignment – History of the 82nd Airborne
Israel’s DCCC Called Iraq War Veteran and 82nd Airborne paratrooper Lee Zeldin a “Coward”
Washington – Today the NRCC ordered a copy of the book “82nd Airborne” for Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel and Long Island Congressman Tim Bishop. This was in response to a release sent by the DCCC calling Iraq War veteran and 82nd Airborne paratrooper Lee Zeldin a “coward.”
Zeldin is running against Bishop for Congress in New York’s 1st Congressional District. Upon graduation from law school, he received an Army ROTC commission as a Second Lieutenant, assigned to the Military Intelligence Corps of the United States Army. He became a member of the New York State Bar in January 2004 at the age of 23. In 2006, Zeldin was deployed to Iraq with an infantry battalion of fellow paratroopers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division. In 2007, he transitioned from active duty to the Army Reserves where he currently serves with the rank of Major.
Conversely, Bishop has been investigated by the Office of Congressional Ethics and the Department of Justice for his role in a pay-for-play scheme involving Bishop’s fundraising tactics.
“It’s been two days since Steve Israel’s DCCC called Iraq War veteran Lee Zeldin a ‘coward’ and Israel has not apologized and Tim Bishop has not demanded an apology of him,” said NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior. “Maybe by reading about the heroics of those like Lee Zeldin who served in the 82nd Airborne Bishop will be able to muster up an ounce of courage and demand that Israel immediately apologize.”
