Diners, Dives and Disappointment
With President Obama still vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard, Americans are still asking: Where are the jobs? Our veterans are suffering from this administration’s failures. There’s the crisis on our border. And America is growing weaker abroad.
But the president seems more interested in playing pool, drinking beers and grabbing burgers. So it’s no surprise a majority of Americans now view President Obama and his administration as incompetent.
With the president dragging down Democrat incumbents coast-to-coast, he might want to spend August visiting some of their districts. And since he’s not interested in dealing with any real issues – he could even visit some diners and dives along the way.
Each week in August the NRCC will profile new districts for the president to visit.
President Obama and these Democrat incumbents might just learn how disappointed the American people are.
Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District
Northwest Minnesota, Wilmar, Moorhead
Democrat: Collin Peterson
The Dish: Collin Peterson has been in Washington for 23 years and has lost touch with Minnesota voters. A career politician, Peterson truly enjoys the perks of the job, including taxpayer-funded car leases, international travel, and even fuel for his personal plane.
What’s on tap: President Obama and Peterson can travel the vast 7th Congressional District on Air Force One or Peterson’s personal plane. On the ground, Obama can again thank Peterson for his work passing Cap-and-Trade in the House.
Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District
Northeast Minnesota, Iron Range, Duluth, Bemidji
Democrat: Rick Nolan
The Dish: Rick Nolan went back to Washington after a 30 year break. The problem is Nolan brought his liberal 1970’s anti-military world view with him. Nolan arguably has the worst voting record in Congress. He voted against funding for our troops and was one of four Members of Congress to vote against funding our veterans.
What’s on tap: Nolan and Obama have the same views on every issue. Both can explain to voters why they have hurt our veterans, whether through the legislative process or the VA scandal. Nolan and Obama can also explain why they support carbon taxes that have hurt Minnesota families.
Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District
Southwest Iowa, Des Moines, Council Bluffs
Democrat: Staci Appel
The Dish: Staci Appel is a liberal former state Senator that is so out-of-touch with Iowans that she lost reelection in 2010. In the Senate, Staci Appel consistently voted for higher taxes and fees. She did this on everything from the state sales tax, to nursing homes, farmers, livestock producers, and even iPods. Appel even voted against creating a Government Accountability Office for the state of Iowa.
What’s on tap: Appel can travel Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District and tout her long record supporting tax increases with President Obama. Iowa voters will surely be disappointed with Appel when they find out she voted for a bill to spend $120,000 of taxpayer money for decorative flower pots in the state Capitol and $80,000 to repair a pipe organ.
Illinois 12th Congressional District
Southern Illinois
Democrat: Bill Enyart
The Dish: Enyart claimed he would be an independent voice in Congress, but he’s voted with Nancy Pelosi a vast majority of the time. He has opposed repealing Obamacare, even though it cuts Medicare by $716 billion and threatens seniors’ access to care. And he stood by ObamaCare during its failed implementation, criticizing most efforts to repeal this disastrous law.
What’s on tap: While touring the district with Obama, Enyart can explain why he was the only member of Congress to vote against a bill allowing military chaplains to continue to do their work during the government shutdown. He even bragged that this was his proudest vote in Congress.
Illinois 13th Congressional District
Central and Southwest Illinois
Democrat: Ann Callis
The Dish: Callis was Chief Judge of what has been called the “Judicial Hellhole” of Madison County, Illinois according to the American Tort Reform Foundation. So it’s no surprise that Callis’ appointments as both an Associate Judge and as a Circuit Judge were mired in nepotism, as she benefited from her well-connected lawyer father’s lobbying and political donations.
What’s on tap: Callis would be a great host to President Obama in his home state where he can learn all about how his policies are not only ruining her chances of being a Congresswoman but also how they are crushing small businesses and middle class families in the 13th District.Whether it is Obama’s extreme War on Coal or the negative impact Obamacare is having on women and middle class families, Callis will have a lot to explain to the voters as to why she continues to support these out-of-touch policies.
Stay tuned for the final leg of our road trip next week!
