Will Patrick Murphy Finally Stand Up To Obama & Pelosi?

January 21, 2015

take hike proposalsNow that the State of the Union has concluded, you should brace yourself for Barack Obama’s all too predictable calls for higher taxes on South Florida families.  After all, someone has to pay the piper for all of the “free” stuff that the President likes to give away as part of his big government spending agenda.  The only question is whether or not Congressman Patrick Murphy will actually take a stand for his constituents or if he will once again fall in line with his Democrat bosses in Washington.

Given Murphy’s recent vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House – all despite an overwhelming rejection of her and Obama’s policy initiatives at the ballot box last November – it looks like he is once again posed to fall in line.

During his speech, the President called for $320 billion in tax increases. That fits in perfectly with every other State of the Union that he’s ever delivered where he’s also called for tax hikes.  The highlights (or lowlights, perhaps?) of this year’s tax increases include: a 4.2% increase on the capital gains and dividends tax rate; a 20% hike in the death tax; a bank tax; a tax on middle class families saving for their children’s college; and tax increases in retirement plans and new employer mandates.

It is unfortunate that Patrick Murphy refuses to go against the grain in Washington, D.C. by actually putting the well-being of families in Southern Florida first for once.  Someone needs to tell him that he answers to the people of his district and not to Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

NRCC Comment:  “Patrick Murphy needs stand up for the people of South Florida and stop taking his marching orders from Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama for a change.  Barack Obama’s call for $320 billion in higher taxes is absolutely absurd, and Patrick Murphy needs to do the right thing by denouncing the President’s out-of-touch big government spending proposals.” – NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack.
