Ruben Kihuen’s backup plan

April 2, 2015

After announcing he was running for Congress in a district where he doesn’t live, Ruben Kihuen was forced in a recent interview with KNPR to justify his blatant district hopping. However, it is no accident that Kihuen left himself with quite the backup plan in case things don’t go his way next November.backupplan

“The law as written, you don’t have to live in that district, but I have made a promise that when I get elected to representing Congressional District 4 that I will move into the district immediately,” Kihuen said.

That’s right, Kihuen has completely ruled out moving to the district he hopes to represent at any point before the 2016 elections.

It’s clear that Kihuen is hedging his bets by staying at his current home in CD1. Additionally, if Dina Titus decides to run for U.S. Senate, Kiheun also leaves himself the option of changing his mind and running in CD1 (again).

Kihuen clearly paid attention to the lessons of his mentor Harry Reid and is giving himself as many options as possible to make it to Congress. Just don’t expect Kihuen to inconvenience himself in the process.

NRCC Comment: “Ruben Kihuen wants to represent the 4th Congressional district in Washington, but has unbelievably ruled out the possibility of moving to the district before the 2016 elections. With a backup plan this obvious, it’s clear that Kihuen is more concerned with keeping his options open than getting to know the 4th District families he is asking to vote for him.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Hunter
