Will House Democrats stand with Clinton after her latest defeat?
As the Democrat primary stumbles toward a contested convention in Philadelphia, Hillary Clinton has lost yet another state to socialist Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders defeated Clinton by a 15-point margin last night in West Virginia, a state that Clinton previously won by a 67%-26% margin in her 2008 battle against Barack Obama.
This latest defeat came the same day that a Quinnipiac University Poll showed that 57% of Florida voters, 62% of Ohio voters, and 58% of Pennsylvania voters now hold unfavorable views of Clinton. And as her popularity continues to plummet among the electorate, reports are flying that Clinton’s top state department aides Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin have been questioned by the FBI in relation to Clinton’s private email server, and that questioning Clinton is likely next and final step in the probe.
As it appears the Clinton-Sanders feud will be decided in Philadelphia by the party’s super delegates, House Democrats will be forced to make a choice. Will they stand with unpopular FBI target Hillary Clinton, who may be forced to campaign from a jail cell this fall? Or will they turn to socialist Bernie Sanders and be forced to defend a laundry list of radical policy positions?
NRCC Comment: “Hillary Clinton’s latest defeat in a state she won by more than 40 points in 2008 shows just how divided Democrats are in this year’s primary. Whether House Democrats choose to stand with unpopular FBI target Hillary Clinton or socialist Senator Bernie Sanders at a contested convention, they will be forced to defend a terrible general election candidate who will drag down the rest of the ticket in November.” – Bob Salera, NRCC Spokesman
