Tom Nelson’s Social Security hypocrisy
August 16, 2016
Tom Nelson is trying to have it both ways on Social Security. Just yesterday, Nelson sent out a fundraising e-mail promising to protect Social Security for Wisconsin seniors. But Nelson’s voting record in the State Assembly tells the opposite story.
In 2005, Nelson voted against phasing out a state tax on Social Security that would have saved seniors $95 million annually. If that’s Nelson’s idea of standing up for seniors, then seniors may want to hide their wallets.
NRCC Comment: “There is only candidate on the ballot in Wisconsin’s 8th District who has voted against millions in Social Security savings for Wisconsin seniors and his name is Tom Nelson. If Tom Nelson’s idea of protecting Social Security for seniors is voting against $95 million in annual tax savings, then maybe it is time for Nelson to join Wisconsin seniors in retirement.” –NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack
