Angie Craig goes on senior tour, will she explain patient safety issues?
Angie Craig is embarking on a tour of 2nd District senior centers today. While she is stumping for votes, will she explain her company’s history of turning profits at the expense of patient safety?
Craig is a long time executive of St. Jude Medical, a company with a rocky history on safety. In 2010, Craig’s company was forced to pull a heart device off the market due to serious defects that led to the deaths of multiple patients. After the FDA reported that the device, which was supposed to last for at least a decade, was degrading in as little as four years, Craig’s company settled the 950 claims against it for $14.25 million.
But Craig’s company didn’t learn its lesson, as the FDA recently confirmed it was working with Homeland Security on an investigation into a potential security flaw in the company’s pacemakers that could make them vulnerable to remote hacking, threating the lives of patients.
