Pete Gallego’s Obamacare Bait and Switch
September 22, 2016
In his conversation with the Texas Tribune this morning, Pete Gallego tried to use a vote against a single provision of Obamacare as an example of him crossing party lines for the good of the 23rd District. The problem? Gallego opposed the repeal of Obamacare, all but ensuring any provision he supposedly wanted to scrap remained law.
Gallego still stands by the health care law today, even though many exchanges across Texas will have only one insurer participating, meaning fewer options and higher costs. For Gallego to cite opposition to provisions of a law he wants to preserve is exactly the sort of political doublespeak that got him booted out of office in 2014.
