Colleen Deacon needs to apologize for calling John Katko “a coward”
October 11, 2016
Colleen Deacon needs to apologize for calling John Katko a “coward.” It’s an absurd thing to say about someone like Katko, who has received death threats and had a contract put on his life while battling gangs, drug cartels and murderers as a U.S. Attorney.
Deacon made her comments this morning on 570 WSYR.
Here’s some of the things that Katko has endured during his career as a U.S. Attorney that Deacon thinks makes him a coward:
- Prosecuting drug cartels in El Paso.
- Prosecuting an eight murder drug organization case in Puerto Rico, where Katko had to send his wife and son home for eight months because of all the threats he received. This necessitated posting 13 U.S. Marshalls to protect Katko when he was in the court room trying the case.
- Had a contract put on his life in Syracuse, which caused the Marshalls to have Katko’s family temporarily moved out of their home until it could be properly secured.
- Had routine threats made against him while prosecuting 160 gang members in Syracuse, which included 2 dozen murders, hundreds of shootings, and other major crimes.
- Spent time in maximum security federal prisons interviewing hardened criminals.
A coward? Hardly.
NRCC Comment: “As a U.S. Attorney, John Katko never once backed down from prosecuting drug cartel members and murderers despite receiving death threats and having a contract put on his life. John Katko has proven that he is anything but a coward, and Colleen Deacon needs to apologize for her disrespectful comments.” –NRCC Spokesman Chris Pack
