NRCC Weekly Rundown: New TV ads, Angie Craig won’t rule out cutting Social Security benefits, Jacky Rosen stumbles on Hillary question, and more!

October 21, 2016

run-down

And here’s this week’s edition of the NRCC Weekly Rundown:

National: The NRCC is up with new TV ads in CA-07, CO-06, FL-18, IA-01, two ads in ME-02, MI-01, MN-02, MN-08, NE-02, NV-04, NY-19, NY-22, PA-08, TX-23, and WI-08.

National: New documents from the FBI show that a State Department official offered a “quid pro quo” to the FBI as he pressured the Bureau to downgrade the classification of one of Hillary Clinton’s emails. Meanwhile, despite Clinton allies’ insistence that foreign hackers had not breached her private server, sensitive documents from Clinton’s emails were found on a Romanian server.

National: New reporting from Bloomberg shows that 1.4 million people will lose their health insurance next year due to Obamacare. And those lucky enough to not have their plans cancelled will face premium hikes of 50% or more in some states.

CA-24: At a debate this week, Salud Carbajal dismissed the Survivor’s Bill of Rights Act of 2016, a law that ensures victims of sexual assault have meaningful access to justice that was unanimously passed by both houses of Congress and signed by President Obama, as “symbolic.” Carbajal ignores the victims of sexual assault who pushed for this law, and displayed his ignorance on this critical issue.

MD-06: John Delaney was a no show at a candidate’s forum hosted by WCBC this week. Delaney’s refusal to debate left Amie Hoeber to talk to Maryland voters while sitting next to an empty chair, which, to be fair, is a pretty good metaphor for John Delaney’s representation in Congress.

MN-02: Jason Lewis and Angie Craig met for two debates, and Angie Craig put all of her bad ideas on display. Most notably, Craig refused to rule out cutting seniors’ Social Security benefits.

MN-03: A new poll from KSTP and SurveyUSA shows Rep. Erik Paulsen with a double-digit lead over Terri Bonoff as the race heads to the finish line. Paulsen also leads among both men and women, and has a 10-1 advantage in cash on hand.

NV-03: Jacky Rosen stumbled her way through dodging a question on whether she thinks Hillary Clinton is trustworthy. Just three weeks out from the election, Rosen refuses to come clean with voters on her support for Clinton, as well as where she stands on most major policy issues.

NY-19: Elizabeth Warren endorsed fellow Super PAC hypocrite Zephyr Teachout. Warren sent out a fundraising email on Teachout’s behalf, decrying the influence of “billionaire hedge fund managers,” not mentioning, of course, the billionaire hedge fund managers who have given big donations to Teachout.

PA-08: Steve Santarsiero has been skipping out on his duties in Harrisburg to campaign, but still hasn’t found the time to condemn Hillary Clinton’s email scandal. Recently, sensitive documents from Clinton’s emails were found on a server in Romania, and news came out of a State Department official offering a quid pro quo to down grade one of Clinton’s emails, but Santarsiero can’t find it in himself to criticize her.

Angie Craig’s “normal” voter in Democratic party ad is really a lobbyist

Some of Teachout’s donors also gave to super PACs

Zephyr Teachout has been a vocal opponent of super PACs. For a short time last year the Democrat even headed a super PAC whose goal was to end all super PACs. But the National Republican Congressional Committee said that hasn’t stopped her from accepting contributions from those who gave to Super PACs. “Zephyr Teachout says she is against Super PACs despite taking money from Super PAC donors,” the NRCC wrote in a blog post.
