Reality check

New reports from over the weekend are throwing cold water on the Democrats’ narrative that California House Republicans are on the defensive.

In David Siders’ Politico article, “Why California Republicans aren’t as vulnerable as they look,” former Democratic Assembly Speaker Willie Brown says: “Democrats are guilty of excessive optimism if they think they’re going to wipe the floor in next year’s elections…”

Additionally, Democratic strategist Darry Sragow and political analyst Rob Pyers write in the Sacramento Bee that while California Democrats “may experience visions of sugar plums dancing in their collective heads… if they look at past results with clear eyes, they will see that their odds remain long.”

Gosh, when have Democrats ever exaggerated their chances in California House races before?
