no voting records since 1972

We already know that Archie Parnell has no ties to South Carolina, so this morning’s story from The State is less than surprising.  But it is terrible for Parnell.

Turns out Parnell has had an odd voting history. And by that I mean, turns out that there are no records of him voting at all in South Carolina since 1972.

The State: “The state elections office has no records of Parnell ever voting in South Carolina until the Sumter native and former Goldman Sachs tax adviser voted for himself in last month’s 5th District Democratic primary.

“Elections officials say the 66-year-old political novice’s voter registration appears to have been dormant since June 1972, when Parnell registered.

“Parnell, who has lived and worked in Asia and Europe, updated his registration on Feb. 17 of this year, a little more than two weeks before he announced his congressional run.”

But it gets weirder. Parnell’s campaign shot back that he had, in fact, voted in every presidential election since the 1970s, but with one caveat: they have no idea where he voted, except once in Texas.

The State: “Wukela says Parnell has voted – sometimes absentee – in every presidential election since the 1970s. But he said he does not know where Parnell was registered, except that he once voted in Texas.

“Efforts to reach Parnell directly were unsuccessful.”
