“It’s what I do”
Brad Ashford is a career politician. And he is perfectly okay with that.
In an interview with KMTV News’ Craig Nigrelli, Ashford alludes EIGHT separate times to being a career politician and… not having much else to offer.
- 0:11: “Back to work!” (on launching his third congressional campaign)
- 0:29: “My career has basically been in… as a legislator.”
- 0:42: “Brad, this is what you do; you want to get back to work. Go get back to work.” (on being a professional politician)
- 0:58: “I wanted to get back in the minute I left there.” (on deciding whether to seek office after losing in 2016)
- 1:14: “It’s what I do.” (on serving in office)
- 2:53: “The experience I’ve had as a legislator for 18 years…”
- 3:13: “I want to go back to work. This vacation thing… I’ve had too much vacation.”
- 3:16: “It’s time to get back to work.”
What’s especially sad is Brad’s rationale for sidelining his own wife, who he admits is “exceedingly qualified” with a career in business, to clear a path for his own retread run. Brad said he decided he should run instead of her because running for office is “what I do.”
If voters wanted a career politician representing them, they would have made that choice just months ago when they rejected Ashford’s failed record. Just because Brad has nothing to do is no rationale for another bid for office.
