Heating Up
Brad Ashford may flip-flop all over the map on issues, but in 2017 he’s remained consistent in one thing: refusing to treat progressive primary opponent Kara Eastman seriously.
Late last week, Ashford laughed off Eastman’s declaration she anticipates a $1 million primary between the two, chuckling, “Oh, heavens no. That would be too bad.”
But Eastman is taking the fight to Ashford, unleashing a savage broadside against the former Congressman in today’s Omaha World-Herald over his DACA flip-flopping: “In other words, Ashford did not vote with his new political party on the issue of protecting the Dreamers, siding instead with his old party, the Republicans.”
Brad may think he’s entitled to the Democratic nomination, but he’s going to have to earn it – whether he likes it or not. As Eastman squeezes Ashford from the left, he can either take her seriously or continue running the kind of low energy campaign that earned him the indignity of being the only House Democrat in the country to lose re-election to a Republican in 2016.
