After last week’s oppo dump by the DCCC on a Democratic candidate in Texas for being a DC insider, I’m feeling generous. In order to save them some time, I figured I would mock up their next attack, in their original format – on another Democratic candidate who is guilty of the same disqualifying factors the DCCC says Laura Moser is guilty of.

NARRATIVE:

Michigan voters need to hear that Elissa Slotkin is not going to change Washington. She is a Washington insider who begrudgingly moved to Michigan to run for congress at direction of Nancy Pelosi. In late 2017, she claimed Washington DC to be her primary residence in order to get a special DC tax break.  What’s more: Slotkin failed to report her DC home on her personal financial disclosure in order to hide from Michigan voters that she is a DC insider at heart and at home.

PROOF POINTS:

May 2017: Slotkin registered to vote in Michigan – claiming she was a primary resident of The Great Lakes State. She was required by law to notify the D.C. Tax and Revenue Office of this change. She failed to do this.

May 2017 – September 2017: Slotkin continued to receive a special tax break that only primary D.C. residents qualify for.

October 2017: Slotkin is called out in a Detroit News story – “The Michigan Republican Party on Thursday called Slotkin a ‘DC insider,’ arguing she is still registered to vote there and that she’s taking the homestead tax exemption on her District of Columbia property, which is only supposed to apply to a homeowner’s principal residence.” Soon after being outed in The Detroit News: Slotkin sends a letter to DC saying she should not have received the DC tax break.

January 2018: Slotkin is called out for receiving the homestead exemption in a WHMI story. Her campaign issues a long, rambling explanation saying that receiving a special DC tax break was merely an “oversight.”
