Tax Season: Reform Leads to More Than 616,000 New Jobs
Tax Day is just around the corner, though this year’s is a markedly more joyous occasion than prior ones thanks to Republicans’ passage of tax reform last year.
Tax reform has launched our nation into an economic boom unlike ever before—what we call The Great American Comeback.
This newfound economic prosperity comes in many forms. Since tax reform’s signing into law, American companies have added more than 616,000 jobs, bringing the unemployment rate down to a 17-year low of 4.1%. Not only are there more jobs available for hardworking Americans, wages have increased as well:
Nonfarm payrolls grew by 200,000 in January and the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, while wages saw their biggest jump since the end of the Great Recession, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in a closely watched report Friday.
…In addition to the solid payroll growth, average hourly earnings were up 0.3 percent for the month, matching estimates and reflecting an annualized gain of 2.9 percent. That was the best since mid-2009 as the two-year economic slump was coming to a close.
Overall, American businesses of all sizes are greatly benefiting from tax reform. And when our nation’s businesses succeed, America succeeds.
