NRCC Denounces PAC Using Colorado Shooting Victim for Political Purposes
The NRCC called on Giffords PAC to take its most recent ad, “Mike Coffman Sides with the NRA,” off the air after the PAC used the name and text conversation very similar to an actual victim of gun violence in Colorado for political purposes.
The ad in question uses a text message conversation between a student named “Emily” and her mother, ending in “I love u. Tell Dad I love him” before going silent, ostensibly the victim of a tragic school shooting.
In 2006, 16-year-old Emily Keyes was held hostage by a gunman at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, Colorado, texting her parents “I love u guys” before tragically losing her life.
“It is immoral, inhumane, and disgusting for this Super PAC to invoke the name and texts of an actual victim of gun violence to further their political agenda. Mike Coffman has been a leader on school safety. This ad should be taken off the air immediately.” -NRCC Spokesman Jack Pandol
