NRCC Weekly Rundown: The socialist gong show continues

March 8, 2019

And here’s this week’s edition of the NRCC Weekly Rundown:

(National) House Democrats’ resident anti-Semite Ilhan Omar continues to show that the hate in her heart isn’t going anywhere. After House Democrats reluctantly voted to pass a resolution “opposing all forms of racism and bigotry,” Omar took to Twitter to retweet another anti-Semitic attack – this time targeting the late Senator John McCain and calling Meghan McCain’s concern about anti-Semitism “faux outrage.” House Democrats clearly have an anti-Semitism problem on their hands. How many more bigoted tropes will Omar spout before House Dems finally call for her removal from the Foreign Affairs Committee? Maybe Nancy Pelosi should give House Republican leadership a call for some advice on how to control her own caucus.

(National) Ilhan Omar isn’t the only freshman Democrat making anti-Semitic waves. At literally the same time Democrats were debating a watered-down resolution in response to Omar’s anti-Semitism, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sent out a fundraising email saying she’s being attacked by pro-Israel groups and compared Omar’s anti-Semitism to something that will one day be acceptable – just like opposition to the Iraq War.

(National) On top of the hate festering within their ranks, Democrats are also fighting another losing battle. Poll after poll affirms that Americans want absolutely nothing to do with socialism. NBC News reported that just 18 percent of all Americans say they view the term positively, while 50 percent see it in a negative light. Whether it’s pushing for a $32 trillion government takeover of health care, or the Green New Deal (a $93 trillion government takeover of the economy that will dictate every aspect of your life) Democrats have embraced socialism with open arms. How will they pay for it you ask? Who knows! Even DCCC Chairwoman Cheri Bustos doesn’t have a clue.

(National) Not only do Democrats want to socialize your health care, they’re also pushing for socialized elections with their first major piece of legislation. H.R. 1, which passed the House Friday, will funnel up to $5 million to every candidate running for the House of Representatives. To put that in perspective, according to Open Secrets, in 2018 there were 2,905 candidates who ran for a House seat. That means taxpayers will foot the bill for up to $14.5 BILLION in political campaign spending – even for candidates they don’t support. The socialist Democrats just can’t help themselves anymore.

(CA-25) Katie Hill has taken a leap to the left after co-sponsoring a Medicare for All bill. Too bad she admitted to The Talk of Santa Clarita that Democrats have NO PLAN to pay for the socialized health care they’re trying to force on every American. Pretty irresponsible coming from a Congresswoman who was elected to House Democrat leadership. What else do they want to pass but don’t know how to pay for?

(IA-01) Abby Finkenauer was added to the House Democrats’ leadership team this week, as she was appointed Assistant Whip by Majority Whip Jim Clyburn. Poor timing on Abby’s part as her new boss quickly ran to the defense of Ilhan Omar after she made more disparaging comments towards Jewish people. Clyburn claimed her story is more personal than Jews who had parents in the Holocaust. So, quick question for Finkenauer – does she agree with her new boss?

(IA-03) This week Cindy Axne introduced an amendment to H.R. 1, the Democrats’ proposal to funnel $5 million in taxpayer money to their campaign accounts, seeking to end the revolving door between government and lobbying. There’s only one problem – Axne has been walking through that revolving door for years. Before she was a member of Congress, Axne was a government worker and a registered lobbyist. That begs the question: does Cindy Axne plan to retire if H.R. 1 becomes law?

(MN-07) While Ilhan Omar spews her anti-Semitic bigotry, cranky Collin Peterson is nowhere to be found. Now that members of House Democrat leadership have trivialized the experiences of Jews who had parents in the Holocaust, will Peterson finally speak out against his Minnesota colleague? Or should Minnesotans assume he’s perfectly fine with an anti-Semite sitting on the House Foreign Affairs Committee?

(TX-23) Washington, D.C. resident and failed congressional candidate Gina Ortiz Jones announced that she will give her campaign another go. Her extreme socialist ideas like Medicare for All were rejected in 2018, and we’re sure Texans will reject her again in 2020.

Democrats need to oust anti-Semite Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee

Democratic leaders will put forward a vote on the House floor Wednesday to denounce anti-Semitism in the wake of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s latest inflammatory remarks about Jewish support for Israel. But it’s unlikely that Omar will pay a real price for her bigotry… READ.

Dems’ elections overhaul could become campaign fodder in Georgia

House Democrats’ elections and ethics overhaul is set to die a swift death in the U.S. Senate, but expect the sweeping legislation to have new life on the campaign trail in Georgia.

Democrats are eager to campaign on many of the bill’s core issues – including automatic voter registration, expanded early voting and public financing of elections – while GOP-aligned groups are already counter-messaging that it amounts to an expensive federal power grab.

GOP groups have already begun using the legislation on the campaign trail in Georgia. The National Republican Congressional Committee highlighted a Bloomberg report that estimated candidates could be eligible for nearly $5 million in taxpayer money under a provision that would allow for the public financing of congressional races.

“By voting to funnel public funds to her campaign, (U.S. Rep. Lucy) McBath’s proven she’s right at home in the swamp,” said NRCC Spokesperson Camille Gallo. READ

Ben McAdams stands alone among Utah GOP peers in support of ethics reform, voter rights bill

The state’s only Democrat in Congress voted for a campaign finance and ethics reform package Friday that one of his Utah colleagues calls the worst bill he has seen since his time in office.

Rep. Ben McAdams, D-Utah, joined House Democrats in passing the “For the People Act,” which addresses campaign finance, ethics, accountability and voter rights. Utah’s three congressional Republicans voted against the measure.

The National Republican Congressional Committee blasted McAdams’ support of the measure, saying it shows he’s only working for himself.

“By voting to funnel public funds to his campaign, McAdams’ proven he’s right at home in the swamp,” said NRCC spokeswoman Torunn Sinclair. READ
