UPDATE: Abby denies Sanctuary Cities vote while fundraising off of it
September 27, 2019
Since Abby Finkenauer is lying about her vote in favor of sanctuary cities in Iowa on Twitter, we’ll lay it out in a bit more detail!
- In response to moves by local governments to ban complying with federal immigration laws, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed into law a ban on sanctuary cities in 2018.
- That bill, S.F. 481, passed the Iowa House by a 55-45 vote, with then-State Rep. Abby Finkenauer voting “No.”
- S.F. 481 strips state funding from Iowa cities and counties that intentionally violate federal immigration laws, such as refusing to honor an immigration detainer request from ICE (see Sec. 2).
- According to ICE, “Detainers are placed on aliens arrested on criminal charges for whom ICE possesses probable cause to believe that they are removable from the United States.”
To sum it up – Abby Finkenauer voted to allow sanctuary cities in Iowa, which would protect criminal illegal aliens, including the child sex predators arrested in ICE’s recent sting, from deportation, thus allowing them to remain in Iowa.
Perhaps someone should ask Abby to explain why she feels this is not the case? That is, unless she’s just lying in a fundraising tweet…
