NRCC Weekly Rundown: Bloomberg-bought Dems still in disarray

February 28, 2020

Here’s this week’s edition of the NRCC Weekly Rundown:

(National) NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer has been warning House Democrats that their socialist agenda will cost them their majority since January 2019 and now, House Democrats are fully on board! While embattled Nancy Pelosiis taking cues from de facto Speaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the band of socialists running her conference, many Democrats are struggling to cope with Bernie Sanders’ pending nomination. One prominent Democrat put the “freakout level” at a 12 — on a scale of one to 10. Time to sound the alarm!

(National) This week the NRCC launched a new state-of-the-art tool to track the progress of Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s 2021 budget proposal, coinciding with House Democrats’ incessant whining over the proposed 2021 Executive Budget. For two years in a row, the socialist House Democrats have been unwilling to fulfill one of their most fundamental responsibilities under Article 1, Section 7, Clause 1 of the Constitution, which mandates that all legislation pertaining to spending originate in the House of Representatives. It’s about time Nancy Pelosi and her socialist cohorts quit their bellyaching and come up with a proposal to show the American people how they want to spend their money!

(National) House Democrats claim they’re focused on getting big money out of politics, but their biggest donor, billionaire Mike Bloomberg, admitted this week he bought their House majority in 2018, subsequently making Nancy PelosiSpeaker of the House. The NRCC sent 40 House Democrats “For Sale” signs to fill out so voters know how much it will cost for someone to buy their loyalty this time around. How much will their seat go for in 2020?

(National) House Democrats once again voted against legislation that would penalize the intentional killing of infants who survive an abortion. Democrats’ opposition to this life-saving and commonsense measure puts them at complete odds with voters who overwhelmingly oppose the gruesome late-term abortions the socialist Democrat Party has embraced. Democrats are selling out their voters to back the extreme pro-infanticide agenda set forth by their extreme, radical party. Disgusting.

(CA-25) Christy Smithvoted to uphold California’s Assembly Bill 5 this week, despite saying she has issues with the bill. Assembly Bill 5 is a newly implemented and extremely unpopular California law that heavily restricts the amount of freelance work independent contractors can perform. Why would Smith vote to uphold the legislation? I can think of $72,500 reasons why! P.S. California’s freshman House Democrats also voted for a bill similar to Assembly Bill 5 at the federal level. Not great!

(FL-07, FL-26, FL-27) This week, Democratic frontrunner socialist Bernie Sanderspraised the murderous regime of Fidel Castro, and was awarded with a positive front-page story in Granma, Cuba’s communist newspaper. Stephanie Murphy, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell and Donna Shalala were all quick to condemn Sanders’ comments, so does that mean they’ll refuse to support himwhen he becomes the Democratic nominee and risk upsetting their socialist base? Probably not, considering Debbie and Donna purposefully skipped a vote this week to condemn his comments. Talk about real profiles in courage

(IL-14) Fake Nurse Lauren Underwood is finally accepting what we’ve been saying all along: the Democrats’ socialist agenda will cost them their majority. Too bad Fake Nurse Lauren’sfar-left record has been well-documented. Fake Nurse Lauren knows she’s doomed in November…

(MN-07) Cranky Collin Peterson has clearly lost his will to fight for MN-07 residents, telling Agri-Pulse this week, “I know I can win. That’s not the issue. That’s the problem. I’m not sure that I want to win.” This comes as no surprise, as Cranky Collin has lost all political clout within his party, is having severe fundraising issues and is now facing a primary challenge from the left. Time to go home, Collin!

(NE-02) Comrade Kara Eastman is apparently into feet. In a public Venmo payment last year, Comrade Kara paid a former campaign staffer for “Pictures of feet.” I promise we’re just as horrified as you.

(NH-01) The NYT is out with a new story detailing how Democrat superdelegates, including Chris Pappas, are ready to cheat Bernie Sanders out of the nomination (again)! So if Sanders arrives with the most delegates, but falls short of a majority, will Pappasbackstab the Vermont socialist and refuse to support him as the Democrat nominee? REMINDER:Sanders won the New Hampshire primary in 2020 and 2016!

(NJ-03, NJ-07) Both Andy Kim and Tom Malinowski view themselves as foreign policy gurus, taking every opportunity to criticize President Trump’s foreign policy decisions. So it’s only fair they weigh-in on their party’s leading candidate for president, Bernie Sandersand his decision to praiseFidel Castro’s murderous regime. We look forward to hearing what Kim and Malinowski think of Sanders’ comments and if they will support him as the nominee! Right now Malinowski’sall in on Sanders’ socialist agenda, which is VERY bad news for New Jersey taxpayers!

(New York) Local New York lawmakers, much like criminals, do not want Andrew Cuomo’sdisastrous bail reform law to be altered. In a letter to top officials, they openly admit: “New York’s bail law was never designed to protect the public from supposedly dangerous people.” So are New York Democrats OK with sacrificing public safety so dangerous criminalsdrug dealers and drunk drivers can roam free and terrorize New Yorkers? Or will they all sit back as the woke socialist insanity continues in Washington and Albany?

(NY-11) In case you missed it, the Washington Examiner put out an exclusive video of Max Rosepraising socialist Bernie Sanders back in 2018. But now that the socialist will likely lead the Democratic ticket in 2020, Roserefuses to even talk about Sanders. This flip-flop is reminiscent of when Rose penned an op-ed promising New Yorkers he wouldn’t support impeachment and then voted to impeach President Trump. I’m starting to sense a pattern here…

(NY-22) Anthony Brindisi doesn’t believe a baby in the womb is a human. When asked by a constituent, “Is a baby in the womb a human?” Brindisi dodged the question and said he’ll leave that “to the scientists to decide.” I wonder…Did Anthony Brindisi need a scientist to believe his two children were humans while they were in his wife’s womb? Click HERE to watch.

(Pennsylvania) Democrats’ leading presidential contenders’ plan to ban fracking makes Susan Wild, Matt Cartwright and Conor Lamb unelectable. A new study released this week shows the Democrat Party’s fracking ban would result in 7.5 million lost jobs and would devastate Pennsylvania’s economy. PA voters overwhelmingly agree that fracking has been a major boost to the economy by a margin of 50% – 26%, but Wild, Cartwright and Lamb’s socialist party wants to kill the industry their constituents rely on. It’s time for PA voters to ban them!

(UT-04) When pressed about his support for Michael Bloomberg last weekend, Ben McAdams told KSL he didn’t know Bloomberg very well. Which begs the question: Why would McAdams endorse someone he doesn’t know well? Could it be the money McAdams was promised from Bloomberg? Or the cash House Majority Forward has already spent on McAdams’ behalf? Click HERE to watch the exchange.

News & Notes

The Washington Post: As Bernie Sanders’s momentum builds, down-ballot Democrats move to distance themselves

Former astronaut Mark Kelly, the Democratic Party’s hope for flipping a U.S. Senate seat in Arizona, tried to do no harm this month when he was asked about Sen. Bernie Sanders. “I will ultimately support who the nominee is of the Democratic Party,” he said.

That was enough for Kelly’s Republican rival, Sen. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.), who is trailing him in early polls, to go on the attack. The television spot she debuted days later spent nearly as much time talking about plans by the democratic socialist from Vermont to raise taxes and award new benefits to undocumented immigrants as it did about Kelly.

As Sanders builds what could eventually be an insurmountable delegate lead, many Democratic House and Senate candidates are approaching a dramatic shift in their campaigns, as they recalibrate to include praise of capitalism and distance themselves from the national party. Top campaign strategists from both parties view Sanders’s success as a potentially tectonic event, which could narrow the party’s already slim hopes of retaking the Senate majority and fuel GOP dreams of reclaiming the House, which it lost amid a Democratic romp in 2018.

“The Democrats’ embrace of socialism is going to cost them their majority — I mean, it’s as simple as that,” said Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee. “Bernie is about as good a contrast as we could have ever hoped for.”

Democrats, particularly those representing swing districts, agree. READ.

POLITICO: Sanders speaks and Florida Democrats rush to distance themselves

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — If there‘s a rule to be followed when running for office in South Florida, it would be this: Don’t praise Fidel Castro.

But Bernie Sanders, the Democratic Party’s presidential frontrunner, did just that Sunday night, grabbing the third rail of South Florida politics and electrifying down-ballot candidates of his own party who raced to distance themselves from his remarks.

“We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba but, you know, it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad,” Sanders said during an interview with “60 Minutes.” “When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?”

Democrats from the party’s establishment wing have long feared that putting Sanders at the top of the ticket would cost them Florida, a key state in President Donald Trump’s reelection calculus.

Beyond the White House, Sanders‘ rise also has Florida Democrats raising red flags about the affect he could have on key down-ticket South Florida races.

Miami Democratic Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is a case in point. She won the Cuban-heavy 26th congressional district in 2018 after beating Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo by less than 2 percentage points. The seat gets attention every cycle as one of the nation’s toughest battlegrounds.

Even before Sanders’ remarks Sunday, the National Republican Congressional Committee had begun branding the first-term congresswoman as a “socialist.” READ.

Washington Examiner: ‘The majority is in play’: House Republicans clamor for more Bernie Sanders

The rise of Democratic contender Bernie Sanders has top House Republicans optimistic the party will recapture the majority this November, and they have their fingers crossed he will seize the nomination.

The Republican Party lost the House in 2018 amid heavy defections from key voting blocs dissatisfied with President Trump. With Sanders emerging as the Democratic front-runner this month, House Republican leaders are convinced the GOP is now poised to win back the chamber. In interviews Thursday, they characterized the socialist Vermont senator as a virtual panacea for nearly every political challenge the party faces heading into the fall, and his success is helping them whether he gains the nomination or not.

“The majority is in play,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California told the Washington Examiner before speaking at a gathering in D.C. to boost female Republican congressional candidates. Added McCarthy’s deputy, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana: “Bernie puts the House even more in play than it already is. I can’t think of one swing district Democrat that would want to invite Bernie Sanders into their district.”

“This actually is going to be a choice between freedom and socialism,” said Rep. Tom Emmer of Minnesota, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, who is unequivocally predicting a House takeover. “If it is Bernie Sanders, you couldn’t get a better distinction between the two choices.” READ.

The Washington Post: For Luria and Spanberger, a Sanders nomination would complicate reelection

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) wasted no time in denouncing presidential candidate Bernie Sanders this week after he said he would skip the annual conference of the pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

“Senator Sanders’ comments only contribute to the divisive rhetoric often used when discussing the issue of Israel’s right to exist,” Luria said in a statement Tuesday that rocketed around social media.

Her swift reaction was an example of the tactics she and other centrist Democrats may use to try to steer clear of the senator from Vermont, an avowed democratic socialist, if he wins their party’s presidential nomination.

Analysts say Sanders could endanger down-ballot incumbents, especially moderates such as Luria, a Navy veteran who ousted a Republican in a swing district in 2018 and helped Democrats win control of the House.

But the National Republican Congressional Committee is already taunting her about Sanders, asking in a mass email Tuesday: “Is she ready to reverse course and refuse to support the socialist and upset her socialist base?” READ.
