SUBJECT: NORTH CAROLINA PRIMARY RESULTS

Despite Democrats’ efforts at gerrymandering Republicans out of office, North Carolina remains a red state. Strong Republican incumbents and the Democrats’ embrace of socialism have completely eroded any chance of Democrats winning in North Carolina’s 8th and 9th Congressional Districts, which President Trump won. Richard Hudson and Dan Bishop have shown how to win campaigns and will be helped by President Trump at the top of the ticket. Democrats, on the other hand, have failed to build strong campaigns or recruit formidable candidates, and will be dragged down by a presidential nominee who supports a socialist agenda.

NC-08: Richard Hudson (R) vs. Patricia Timmons-Goodson (D)

Congressman Richard Hudson starts the general election in a solid position with over $1.4 million cash on hand in a solidly Republican district that President Trump won handily. Hudson has a history of delivering for Fort Bragg, and of working across the aisle to get bipartisan bills signed into law, like improving military pay and giving our nation’s veterans more choice over their VA health care.

This stands in stark contrast to Democrat Patricia Timmons-Goodson who has barely been able to get her campaign off the ground and has been an abject failure at fundraising. Timmons-Goodson will have the impossible task of defending her party’s socialist agenda, which includes decriminalizing illegal immigration and banning private health insurance, dooming her general election chances.

2016 Presidential Results: Trump 52.8% – Clinton 43.6%

Ratings: Cook Political Report – Solid R; Inside Elections – Likely R

Geography: The district runs from Cabarrus County east to Cumberland. The DMA split is 63.68% Raleigh, 32.53% Charlotte, 3.79% Greensboro.

NC-09 Dan Bishop (R) vs. Cynthia Wallace (D)

Congressman Dan Bishop won a competitive special election, despite being outspent, and will have no problem keeping his seat in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District. The seat remains largely unchanged after redistricting. Bishop has consistently worked to solve problems facing North Carolinians like introducing legislation to expand health care coverage and leading a bill to stop sanctuary cities.  Bishop will be further strengthened by President Trump at the top of the ticket, who handily won this district.

Democrats are left with Cynthia Wallace who has a dismal fundraising record and is virtually unknown in the district. Wallace will be forced to own the Democrats’ socialist agenda, which includes eliminating employer-based health care and decriminalizing illegal immigration, destroying any chance of a Democrat winning this seat.

2016 Presidential Results: Trump 52.2% – Clinton 43.6%

Ratings: Cook Political Report – Likely R; Inside Elections – Likely R

Geography: The district covers all of Union, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, and Robeson counties, with portions of Mecklenburg and Moore. The DMA split is 62.85% Charlotte, 23.22% Myrtle Beach, 13.93% Raleigh.
