Too little too late

Now that Lizzie Fletcher has finally seen the light and is calling for funding for the federal government to make a Strategic Petroleum Reserve purchase, someone should ask what took her so long.

In the original version of last month’s relief bill, Republicans included $3 billion for that very purpose to help the oil industry deal with the sudden decline in demand caused by the coronavirus crisis. But Fletcher’s party demanded that SPR funding be stripped in favor of more important things like funding for an opera house in DC.
