Democrats lowering expectations in CA-25

The Washington Post is reporting that national Democrats, after months of hyping the CA-25 race, are now trying to lower expectations for the May 12 special election runoff.

National Democrats have even gone as far to say that Christy Smith is a bad candidate.

This is a message change from Democrats who thought originally Christy Smith could win the special election outright on March 3^rd with 51 percent of the vote. When that clearly wasn’t going to happen, Democrats began pushing this race as a “bellwether” for November. 

I wonder what Democrats’ polling shows to cause the last-minute race to lower expectations?!
