Garamendi flip flops on SECDEF waiver

January 25, 2021

Normally, a nominee for the Secretary of Defense must be retired from the military for seven years before taking on the job.

In 2017, John Garamendi wouldn’t vote to waive the requirement for Trump nominee, General Mattis, because “it’s about the constitution.” Garamendi even used George Washington as an example.

In 2021, Garamendi’s views on the constitution have changed.

Garamendi voted to waive the requirement for Biden nominee, General Austin, citing “extenuating circumstances.”

But the only “extenuating circumstance” seems to be that there is a Democrat instead of a Republican in the White House.  What a hypocrite!
