Underwood refuses to take responsibility for police retirement crisis

July 8, 2021

In a tense exchange this morning, Joe Scarborough pressed Lauren Underwood on rising crime across the country and asked whether Democrats’ anti-police rhetoric is responsible for the growing number of good police officers leaving the force.

Underwood’s response was to blame police officers for low morale instead of Democrats in Congress, saying it will take “deep reflection within the leadership of these law enforcement agencies… This is not somehow that the United States Congress has been disparaging or something like that.”

Perhaps Underwood forgot when Democrats in Congress said police should be abolished, defunded, and dismantled.

NRCC Comment: “Democrats’ anti-police rhetoric is causing police around the country to leave the force. Lauren Underwood should take responsibility instead of blaming the officers who keep us safe.” – NRCC Spokesman Mike Berg
