Christmas isn’t safe from cashless bail
Cashless bail is making for a not so jolly Christmas season in New York City.
Over the weekend five people – including one with 37 prior arrests – were caught pickpocketing in a crowd of sightseers near Rockefeller Center.
This is the latest of many instances where New York’s controversial cashless bail reform has allowed a criminal back on the streets to continue breaking the law.
Just last week, the Fox Christmas Tree was burned to the ground and the suspect was released thanks to the state’s bail reform laws.
New Yorkers seeking respite from the law shouldn’t hold their breath – New York Democrats support bail reform, with Sean Patrick Maloney even saying ending cashless bail is “a top priority” for him.
