Dems are worried about AAPI voters, Chen doubles down on xenophobic comments

April 19, 2022

As Democrat strategists warn they could be losing AAPI voters, Democrats are doubling down to support their CA-45 candidate, Jay Chen, after he made xenophobic comments about his opponent, Congresswoman Michelle Steel.

Chen refuses to apologize, saying his comments were taken out of context (they weren’t), while the DCCC is accusing Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of “gaslighting” over his calls for Democrats to disavow Chen.

Chen’s endorsers, including the California Democrat Party, Congressman Adam Schiff and Congressman Mike Levin, have stayed silent about Chen’s remarks.
