New battleground race numbers: A new poll shows California Rep. Young Kim is leading her Democratic challenger in one of the most closely watched House races this election cycle.
The poll — conducted by Public Opinion Strategies and sponsored by Young’s campaign and the National Republican Campaign Committee — found Young is leading Democrat Asif Mahmood, a doctor by trade, with about 51 percent to his 35 percent. A slice of voters, 13 percent, were still undecided.
Also: The poll found that on a generic ballot, where no candidate is specifically named, voters leaned Republican over Democrat, 45 percent compared to 40 percent. Thirteen percent remained undecided on the generic ballot.
Working in her favor?: The poll’s findings also concluded that a series of factors — like President Joe Biden’s approval ratings, inflation and the economy — were creating a favorable political environment for Republicans like Young. Biden would’ve won the district by 2 points in 2020.
