Biden might have carried this central Illinois seat by nearly 8 points, but Democrats struggled to field a strong candidate against 2020 nominee Esther Joy King. A competitive primary left meteorologist Eric Sorensen with a huge fundraising deficit to King, who entered July with $1.8 million cash on hand. After coming within 4 points of defeating then-Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Cheri Bustos, King enters this matchup in the now-open seat as the favorite.
