Nat Journal: MI-07, MI-08, MI-10 likely to flip
According to National Journal’s new power rankings, MI-07, MI-08, and MI-10 are three of the most likely districts to flip in the country.
In case you missed it…
2. Michigan’s 10th: Open (D)
After Democrats’ recruiting efforts sputtered, John James is poised to flip this open seat in southeast Michigan. The businessman is a top Republican recruit whose Senate campaigns have boosted his profile in the state, and he’s posted massive fundraising numbers since he launched his campaign at the beginning of the year. Carl Marlinga, a former Macomb County judge who has baggage from federal corruption charges, is likely to win the Democratic primary in August.
9. Michigan’s 7th: Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-08)
Slotkin isn’t taking any chances this cycle, posting strong fundraising numbers and going up on the air early to tout her bipartisan credentials. But the battle-tested incumbent faces a stronger opponent this cycle—Republicans believe state Sen. Tom Barrett is better positioned to take on Slotkin than their 2020 nominee. In a district Biden narrowly won, Slotkin will need to distinguish herself from the national party enough to survive this cycle.
10. Michigan’s 8th: Rep. Dan Kildee (D-05)
Kildee’s Flint-based district has been trending more conservative over the past several years, and redistricting made his district even more competitive for the incumbent… Kildee has amassed a $3.2 million war chest, but Junge, a former news anchor, has the ability to self-fund.
