Attacks on lobstermen continue
A federal judge rejected a bid by lobstermen and the state of Maine to block new rules intended to protect right whales, which lobstermen contend “overstate the risks caused by their trap lines and create needless economic harm to the lobster industry.”
The decision came just days after Seafood Watch gave U.S. lobster a “red” rating over the danger imposed to right whales, resulting in retailers pulling lobster from their menus.
Jared Golden voted to strengthen the regulatory agency cracking down on lobstermen over right whale protections, funding it to the tune of $6.27 billion with his vote for the IRA.
