WTAS: Biden’s State of the Union “Contradiction”

February 8, 2023

The big problem for House Democrats heading home for a two week recess to make the sell for Biden’s failed agenda after the State of the Union?

Good luck convincing voters to believe a word he said.

What they are saying…

“if he’s done so much for America, why does most of America not seem to appreciate it?”

WSJ“President Biden devoted most of his State of the Union address on Tuesday night to celebrating what he says is a long list of legislative and economic achievements… But if he’s done so much for America, why does most of America not seem to appreciate it?”

Expect “approval ratings to worsen than to improve.”

The Hill: “By the time you read this, you will probably be inundated with instant polls purporting to portend big shifts in public attitudes… In fact, it is slightly more common for approval ratings to worsen than to improve… Unlike the questions on the instant polls, presidential job approval is highly correlated with electoral and legislative results. Reactions to a State of the Union, and the policies presented in it, are not.”

“Biden’s presidency largely has been a tale of two steps forward and three or four backward”

Roll Call: “That perhaps overly upbeat assessment — given poll numbers about Americans’ views on everything from their personal finances to the direction of the country, their views about the opposing political party to Biden’s approval rating — is one he steadily turned to more and more often in the weeks leading up to his big speech Tuesday night. But Biden’s presidency largely has been a tale of two steps forward and three or four backward, with every perceived victory followed by a very loud and pointed ‘but …'”

“How the president can raise his poor job ratings with new taxes”

Fox News: “Overall, the big gamble of the speech, and of his nascent re-election campaign, is how the president can raise his poor job ratings with new taxes and big promises while sidestepping or ignoring the kitchen-table issues of inflation, immigration and crime on the minds of many Americans who see the country as headed in the wrong direction.”
