Seth Magaziner On D.C. Crime Bill

March 9, 2023

Seth Magaziner has responded to the mounting criticism against his vote to support a D.C. crime measure that would reduce penalties for violent criminals.

His response? “I believe that the people of Washington, D.C., have the right to govern themselves…”

The reality is that even the governing body of D.C. realized they overplayed their hand. After D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser vetoed the bill and President Biden indicated his own trepidations about the bill, the D.C. City Council tried to withdraw the bill.

“This isn’t an issue of local control, it’s an issue of right and wrong. It is wrong that the D.C. Council is putting criminals over the safety of those in the Capital city, and it is wrong that Democrats like Seth Magaziner refuse to be tough on crime.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Savannah Viar
