MEMO: Anti-New Mexico vote will cost Gabe Vasquez
The NRCC released a new memo detailing how Gabe Vasquez’s and other vulnerable House Democrats’ vote against HR 1 doomed his re-election chances.
The memo uses former-New Mexico Congresswoman Torres Small as a case study for why opposing oil and gas jobs in NM-02 can lead to losing an election.
The memo says: “Voters felt [Small] had betrayed New Mexico jobs and public schools by aligning with environmental extremists in a district that includes a large portion of the Permian Basin.”
The memo concludes: “Gabe Vasquez’s vote against HR 1 was a slap in the face to the 61,720 energy jobs in NM-02 where taxes from oil and gas production fund a large portion of the public school system and 25% of state and local budgets.”
Read the full memo here, and take a look at how details of the memo sent Reps. Peltola & Vasquez scrambling to formulate a weak defense.
“Energy jobs are crucial to New Mexico’s economy, and Vasquez’s stance on energy issues is a betrayal to the oil and gas producers in his district.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar
