Kildee refuses to condemn antisemitism
Yesterday House Democrats signed a letter criticizing Rep. Jayapal’s antisemitic comments on Israel…
…But Dan Kildee’s name is noticeably missing from the letter.
“Dan Kildee’s silence is deafening. His refusal to stand up to antisemitism is unfair to Michigan voters wondering where he really stands on this issue.” — NRCC Spokesman Chris Gustafson
Background:
- Ilhan Omar flexed her anti-Semitic bonafides last week, saying there is “no way in hell” she’ll attend the President of Israel’s speech to Congress next week. Then, seeing no consequences from Democratic leadership, Reps. Jamaal Bowman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib followed suit.
- After seeing other Democrats’ antisemitism go unchecked, on Saturday Jayapal said, “Israel is a racist state,” which received pushback from Republicans and Democrats alike.
- On Sunday, Jayapal tentatively walked back her antisemitic statements.
