the fentanyl overdoses just keep coming
The fentanyl and homelessness crises continue to plague Yadira Caraveo’s district.
In Denver, more homeless people have died so far this year than in all of 2022, with a majority of the deaths coming from fentanyl overdoses. The crisis is so bad the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and Colorado law enforcement recently issued an official warning of increased fentanyl threats in Colorado.
During her time in the state legislature, Yadira Caraveo introduced a law that lowered the penalty for fentanyl possession in Colorado, which had such deadly effects it had to be reversed.
Fentanyl overdose deaths in Colorado have doubled in the two years following the passage of Caraveo’s law, and those numbers are rising. In 2022, the death toll exceeded 2021, with 920 Coloradoans tragically dying from fentanyl poisoning.
“Extreme soft-on-crime Democrats like Yadira Caraveo have gone out of their way to make it easier for fentanyl to remain on the streets, causing this crisis. Caraveo’s decision to side with drug cartels over her own suffering constituents has deadly results.” — NRCC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar
