Breaking: $1.7 million racial discrimination verdict “a political blow for Val Hoyle”
Days after Val Hoyle took the stand to testify, a jury awarded a staggering $1.7 million verdict to the victim of racial discrimination at the agency Hoyle oversaw.
The Oregonian reported “the decision in the case brought by Carol Johnson is a political blow for Val Hoyle, the former labor commissioner who hired and supervised Johnson and is now a first-term member of Congress.”
The victim’s attorney told the jury Friday, “Val Hoyle had political aspirations and she had no shame about dragging Ms. Johnson through the mud to get there.”
Hoyle’s troubled tenure as Bureau of Labor and Industries Commissioner has overshadowed her first months in Congress. Earlier this year, Hoyle became embroiled in the La Mota corruption scandal when she repaid her La Mota donors with a $555,000 taxpayer grant to their shady non-profit.
“Val Hoyle’s failed leadership enabled racial discrimination, and now Oregon taxpayers are on the hook for $1.7 million. Hoyle’s time in office has been tainted by scandal after scandal. Enough is enough.” – NRCC Spokesperson Ben Petersen
