Republican candidate George Logan, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes for the 5th District Congressional seat, sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging the immediate review of the Department of Justice June 2022 and February 2024 investigations and subsequent policy changes regarding the safety and security of students and teachers in Waterbury schools.
“Waterbury parents and teachers are extremely frustrated by the lack of information regarding the Department of Justice investigations and subsequent policy changes related to violence and arrests throughout the school district,” Logan wrote in a letter to Garland on Monday.

Kevin Egan, union president, has said the reduction in arrests, coupled with what he called a lax discipline policy at the district level, is making teachers feel unsafe.
