ICYMI: Tom Barrett Calls on Senators Peters and Slotkin to End the Democrat Shutdown

In case you missed it, Congressman Tom Barrett helped lead a letter to Democrat Senators Peters and Slotkin urging them to end the Democrat Shutdown.

“Congressman Tom Barrett and House Republicans did their job in passing a clean CR to keep the federal government open. Democrats continue to hold Michiganders hostage to appease their radical far left base and give criminal illegal immigrants freebies. It’s time for the Democrat shutdown to end.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Bannon

The letter reads, in part:

Our goal in passing this bill was quite simple: keep the government functioning for the American people. You both are well aware of the vital services the federal government provides to millions of Americans across our country. Roughly 56,000 Michiganders who work for the federal government are now furloughed and facing the possibility of missing their next paycheck due to this shutdown. There are over one million people in Michigan who rely on SNAP benefits. These individuals are now facing the reality that they won’t be able to afford groceries due to this shutdown gambit by your Senate leadership.

Senate Minority Leader Schumer, with your backing, has made unrelated and outrageous policy demands that have nothing to do with government funding. It is long past time Senate Democrats stopped holding Michiganders and the American people hostage with this pointless showboating to far-left extremist elements.
