Sarah Trone Garriott Misses the Mark (Again)
A new report reveals that Sarah Trone Garriott reflected on the September 11, 2001, attacks by emphasizing what she called the rise of “anti-Muslim bigotry,” rather than the nearly 3,000 Americans who were murdered that day.
“The day before I began my master of theological studies degree at Harvard University was Sept. 11, 2001,” Trone Garriott wrote. “On that religiously diverse campus, I was more aware of the rising anti-Muslim bigotry and its harm.”
Oddly enough, her reflections don’t include any acknowledgment of the victims, the families shattered, or the national trauma Americans endured.
Instead of honoring the gravity of that day, Trone Garriott chose to filter it through an out of touch, academic lens, one that puts political framing ahead of remembering those we lost.
“Sarah Trone Garriott is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Time and again, she’ll push a political agenda instead of standing with Iowa families. Iowans deserve leaders who will honor our country and its people, not rewrite its most painful moments.” – NRCC Spokeswoman Emily Tuttle
