NRCC Releases Historic Battleground Polling in NC-01

May 8, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the first time this cycle, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) publicly released internal battleground polling in NC-01, offering an early snapshot of a favorable national political landscape for House Republicans and the growing problems confronting vulnerable House Democrats.

The NRCC surveyed likely general election voters in NC-01, which President Trump carried in 2024. The polling shows:

  • Don Davis with exceptionally low name ID for an incumbent;
  • Republicans ahead on the generic ballot, and;
  • The Democrat party’s image is 18 points underwater.

“Vulnerable Democrat Don Davis has spent years collecting a paycheck while voting against things like historic tax relief for farmers, workers, and seniors. Davis’s positions are out of line with Eastern North Carolinians, which is why they’ll elect Laurie Buckhout to represent them.” – NRCC Spokesman Reilly Richardson

Background:

  • This marks the first time this cycle the NRCC has publicly released internal polling in key House battlegrounds, underscoring the challenging political environment facing vulnerable House Democrats heading into 2026.
  • The polling reflects the NRCC’s aggressive early investment in expanding the House map and going on offense in districts that will determine control of Congress. Releasing district-level data at this stage of the cycle, the NRCC is signaling confidence in the battlefield and highlighting the strong position Republicans hold in key battlegrounds nationwide.
