NRCC MEMO: The House Battleground Is In Focus. The Map Favors Republicans.

June 18, 2026

With redistricting now complete following new maps in ten states, the NRCC released a comprehensive battleground analysis outlining why the 2026 House map strongly favors House Republicans.

READ THE MEMO HERE

The memo details how Republicans are targeting dozens of Democrat-held seats and charging through the cycle with stronger candidates, unprecedented fundraising advantages, and much more favorable terrain.

Among the key findings:

  • The Battlefield Has Flipped: To retake the House, Democrats must now win Republican-held seats where President Trump averaged 53.2% of the vote in 2024, compared to just 46.6% in the districts Democrats flipped during the 2018 wave.
  • Democrats Are Playing Defense: There are 23 Democrats running in districts Trump won in 2024, including 21 where Trump cleared 50%, while only eight Republicans are running in Harris-won seats.
  • Lopsided Exposure: Of the 18 toss-up districts currently rated by Cook Political Report, President Trump carried 17 in 2024.
  • Voter Registration Shifts Sharply Toward GOP: Republicans have gained more than 229,000 voters relative to Democrats across 28 battleground districts since the 2024 election, while Democrats have lost voter registration share in 27 of the 28 districts analyzed.

“House Democrats are defending Trump-won seats, losing ground with voters, fighting each other in brutal primaries, and trying to win back the majority on terrain that has shifted decisively against them. With the battlefield fully in focus, Republicans are well-positioned to go on offense and hold our House majority.” – NRCC Spokesman Mike Marinella
