NRCC Statement on MI-07

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) released the following statement on Michigan’s 7th Congressional District primary election: 

“22-year U.S. Army veteran and helicopter pilot Tom Barrett is a proven fighter for Mid-Michigan, consistently delivering common sense wins for hardworking Michiganders. Socialist William Lawrence is a liberal lunatic who wants to abolish the police, ban fossil fuels, and push a radical social agenda on Michigan kids. Even Democrats admit that Socialist William Lawrence is too extreme for Mid-Michigan and that he will be rejected this fall.” – NRCC Spokesman Zach Bannon

BACKGROUND

• Congressman Tom Barrett over performed President Trump in MI-07 by nearly 2.5% in 2024.
• In regards to William Lawrence, Michigan Congresswoman Hillary Scholten said, he is “ill-equipped to lead in Congress. In short, he can’t win.”
• Congressman Brad Schneider said, “we have a great chance to win the seat if we get the candidate that can win the seat. Will Lawrence is not that candidate.”
• A Democrat strategist in Michigan said that electing William Lawrence would be Democrats “about to shoot ourselves in the head.”
• Another Democrat operative said “Lawrence is an unbelievably flawed candidate.”
• The Congressional Black Caucus PAC said “Michiganders deserve better” than William Lawrence.
